Timetable - September 26, 1948

Interesting changes to the cover on this timetable. The effective date has been moved back to its previous location on the bottom, but the text about Rail and Bus schedules remains at the top. Inside the text and photo have been altered to reflect a hunting spin. The Keep Maine Green logo makes an appearance, for the first time in this collection. Although the cover has gone to a blue theme, the interior lines that bordered top and bottom are missing - not even lines of color as a border. On the through train section, the entire schedule seems to have been set back. The Northbound Potatoland Special is now leaving Bangor at 4:25 AM, perhaps because the connecting Maine Central is now arriving at 3:40 AM. A small change in reality. The Flying Yankee is still connecting with the Northbound Aroostook Flyer at Northern Maine Junction and the Southbound Flyer is doing the same with the Kennebec Limited. The Southbound Potatoland because of its sleeper cars still goes all the way to Bangor. Trains 9 and 12 remain combined with the Northbound Potatoland and Southbound Flyer as before, but due to the time change, one now arrives at Greenville at 8:50 AM, with only 30 minutes before the train back to Derby leaves. Going up and back in a single day and doing anything meaningful in Greenville now seems impossible. Those returning on train #12 still have an hour and 23 minute wait for a connection at Derby. Shaving about a half hour out of the wait, that is better, but one doubts there was a whole lot to do in Derby in 1948. The REA ad has been updated and no longer references a specific year. On the bus side of things, nothing appears to have changed.
