Timetable - September 25, 1939
A radical design departure from the previous timetable, this particular cover variation features the railroad's keystone logo in red with with green pine needles behind. Although the logo is the most colorful version we have yet seen, the rest of the cover is, by contrast, rather spartan. The inside double page has an advertisement for hunting in Northern Maine and for the first time in this collection, the phrase 'Plan to travel by rail or bus' appears, putting the buses on even footing with the train. The Station index and map has been radically redesigned, with the station list now surrounding the map. The station list now includes destinations outside the state, Washington D.C. being an obvious one. The timetable on the facing page retains the style from the previous timetable, referencing trains all the way to New York's Penn Station. On the next page, we are offered "Appetizing Meals" at "very moderate prices" in B&A lounge cars. In the Maine Woods is still available, but unlike the last time it was mentioned in a timetable, the price has increased, to 15 cents, up from 10 cents.
