Timetable - November 24, 1930

This timetable marks more than a year since the Crash of 1929 and about a year into the depression. The photo across the two covers this time is of the Fraser Paper mill in Madawaska, the inside spread retains the Fast Freight Ad for the third timetable in this collection. One service change, the single mixed train between South LaGrange and Oldtown has been split up - instead of running both directions in the afternoon as the previous timetable indicated, this edition shows a morning mixed from Old Town and an evening return train. Interestingly, the South LaGrange to Millinocket via the Medford Cutoff passenger service a couple of sections down on the same page shows that this service does not match up at all with the Mixed from Old Town. The service on the Main Line however does match up reasonably well with the Mixed to Old Town, with one Northbound in the morning and one Southbound in the evening offering a close connection with the Old Town mixed. Service on the South LaGrange to Old Town line would be discontinued within three years.
Elsewhere in the timetable, more space is devoted to information about connections on the Maine Central, Boston and Maine and New Haven railroads, taking one anywhere from Portland to New York City. Parlor car and Pullman service is still being pushed, but one could reasonably assume that the volume of passengers was down. Pages 19 and 20 are devoted to several short quotes regarding how good railroads are, how much they pay in taxes and how the railroads will be there no matter what happens in the future. None of these appear to be written by the B&A.
