ANNOUNCING! The AROOSTOOK FLYER
For the first time, the Aroostook Flyer name has been attached to the Daily Except Sunday service between Van Buren and Bangor. Effective November 23, 1936, you could 'Dine at Coffee Shop Prices' on the train. Coaches and Cafe Parlor car were provided. Meals offered at 40, 50 and 60 cents.
Discount fares for weekends and Coach travel are still being advertised and the bus service to Patten has disappeared. Speaking of buses, page 6, left hand side is completely devoted to the bus service. None of these buses are coming further South than Houlton and the majority of the buses connect at some point with a train. It would appear the B&A was attempting to reduce costs by eliminating some passenger train services while maintaining and perhaps even improving service to some locations with buses. Essentially - use the train for the long haul and the bus to get someone to their final destination.
