Timetable - November 11, 1918
The United States Railroad Administration was formed in late 1917 and ran until early 1920. This was as a response to the entry of the US into World War I. This is the first timetable in this collection during this era and we note several things. First is the inclusion of the USRA name above the Bangor and Aroostook name on the front cover, second the is the overall lack of 'flash'. Gone is the colored text - the large map has been replaced by a smaller one and there is no marketing information or advertisements for anything. Essentially we have a 'minimalist' timetable here - appropriate for a railroad and country in a time of war. Western Union is now the telegraph service and American Express is gone, replaced with the American Railway Express Company. (They would later drop the American from their name) Squa Pan appears for the first time in this collection as a place name and Oakfield is now just Oakfield - not Oakfield Junction.
