Timetable - June 22, 1936

As of the original posting of this collection (February 2026) there is a nearly 5 year gap in Timetables. Hopefully this will be closed or tightened up in the future. This represents the first timetable after said gap. The style is radically different from the 1931 timetable we ended on - the covers contain the more familiar B&A Keystone. No photos are visible on the covers as we have gone to a graphic which was, presumably, cheaper and easier to produce. The inside double page contains both graphics and photographs encouraging people to Vacation in NORTHERN Maine. In the Maine Woods is still available for 10 cents.
There have been some service changes. There is no longer service on the Searsport Branch - none. The branch from South LaGrange to Old Town (part of the original Bangor and Piscataquis) no longer exists - not just the passenger service, but the rails have been removed. That is known to have happened in 1933, but when service was discontinued on the Searsport branch is not known. A note in the book Bangor and Aroostook: Stations and Structures by George and Katherine Melvin (2013) mentions the Searsport station was relocated in 1936. One presumes this was done after passenger service was discontinued. It is worth noting that the stations on the two branches are still listed in the 'Index of Stations', particularly interesting since the 15 miles of track from South LaGrange to Old Town no longer exists! They are listed as 'service discontinued'.
Another important change - service over the 6.6 miles between Patten and Sherman is now provided only by bus and only in the morning. This is the first time we have seen a permanent shift to buses, even if it is only on the Patten Branch.
Railway Express Agency is advertised as are weekend rates and a promotion for New Coach Fares all across the United States. An AAR advertisement takes up one entire page and the Northern Telegraph Co. is still promoting 35 cents for the first 15 words.
Smaller than the 1931 timetables, one presumes that is at least partially due to the removal of two lines and their schedules.
