Timetable - July 2, 1928

Although this collection is by far the largest available in one place, there are some holes in the collection. The previous timetable was from 1922 and it seems unlikely that six years would have gone by without a single timetable being released. To the knowledge of your editor, no comprehensive list exists of what timetables were released by the railroad. Therefore, we cannot be certain, but given the volume in this collection in other years, at least one per year seems likely. This timetable is the first in this collection to show a significant change in format from the minimalist style imposed during the USRA control. We are back to photos on the cover, front and rear. If one looks at that photo, something appears to be amiss - the tender lettering says B&A and the number on the side of the cab does not look right. The tender should say 'Bangor & Aroostook' and the 251 on the side of the cab appears to be in a different lettering style than what one would expect. Your Editor suspects this photo has been retouched as the lettering bares no resemblance to the lettering as shown on 251 in this shot from October 13, 1934. The timetable contains a statement about how healthy potatoes are in your diet and the State of Maine is the leader of all states in Potato production. A new summer service called the "Down Easter" (note the two word split) is being provided from New York and New Haven all the way to Van Buren.
The Big Announcement is that effective July 2, 1928, Bangor and Aroostook trains will not operate over the Maine Central to Bangor. Passengers will have to change trains at Northern Maine Junction.
