Timetable - February 6, 1960
An attractive blue tint cannot hide the despair of the passenger train rider in this timetable. Unlike the last timetable in this collection from 1959 - this first one from 1960 shows that the B&A is no longer running into Bangor Union Station. The passenger trains originate / terminate at Northern Maine Junction. Passengers with through tickets will be offered a complimentary taxi service to and from Bangor, either Union Station or the bus terminal. Further, the name Potatoland Special appears to have been completely dropped. We have only train #1 and Train #8, daily-except-Sunday. Food is still being served but there are no longer any sleeping cars on these trains. Further, on the last timetable we looked at in 1959, you could ride a train all the way to Madawaska. Service has been cut back to Caribou. Truly a shadow of its former self. The good news - you could make it from Northern Maine Junction, to Caribou and return in a single day. The bad news, you had to catch train #1 at NMJ at 1:20 AM. The good news, you would be in Caribou by 6:30 AM and have a solid 10 hours before the departure at 4:50 PM to come back south. You would make it back to NMJ at 9:30 PM - 20 hours and 10 minutes after you left.
