Timetable - Bus - September 15, 1979
This timetable continues the old railroad habit of tinting an entire timetable with the same color. This time we are green and the front cover, when opened, reveals a photo of bus 553 at the Bangor Mall. We are invited to 'See Scenic Northern Maine' right down the side of the bus. Inside charter bus service is still being pushed as is bus based 'Package Express' service. Greyhound is referenced for connections, but no information is provided. We are reminded that one trip per day is made to Fort Kent and that one can easily catch a Canadian Lines bus and get a ride to Canadian points. Two round trips per day are being made, but the later departure will only get you as far as Caribou. The earlier trip will get you all the way to Madawaska. On the Southbound side, the earlier bus starts in Caribou and will have you to Bangor just after noon, where the Fort Kent bus will get you into Bangor at 4:15. Meal stops for both trips in both directions are in Houlton. Taxi service is listed for the Millinocket - Mattawamkeag corridor. Ever helpful, the bus service will offer passengers a taxi ride if their destination is Fort Fairfield, provided they are holding through tickets.
