Timetable - April 30, 1961

Six months before this timetable was released (See the October 1960 timetable elsewhere on this site) the title flipped. Instead of being Train and Bus - it became Bus and train. The emphasis is not lost on us as this is believed to be the last timetable the Bangor and Aroostook released showing passenger trains. The timetables for several years had been operating on a Spring / Fall pattern for releases. Since the last passenger train was run on September 4, 1961 and the October 29 1961 timetable is bus only, here we have it. The end of an era: The last B&A timetable showing a passenger train. 
Opening it up - we have the large two page bus schedule - showing two daily and one daily-except-Sunday bus trips offered. The third column  on the inside page (table #2) shows the Presque Isle to Fort Kent bus service, working off the passenger trains to Presque Isle and offering daily-except-Sunday service. 
The rail schedule is relegated to the back page - literally the last thing someone sees. The schedule shows one round trip per day - with box lunches available only on the Southbound return trip. Even the rail page has buses on it - the way to get from Northern Maine Junction to the Bangor bus depot - was via bus. Further that page also contains a list of bus agencies - just showing how far the train has fallen.
