Timetable - April 29, 1940
A radical new style of timetable from the one only three months earlier, we now have a large photo spanning both covers and this timetable has both the railroad and the transportation company (IE the Bus Service) right at the top. The inside double cover features a man fishing and once again, the railroad is pushing Northern Maine in general, not them specifically. Although the color scheme and graphics are a bit different on the inside pages, the content does not seem significantly different. Train service between Patten and Sherman and Presque Isle and Mapleton have been 'temporarily suspended' and buses have been substituted. This seems to be the norm for this era, once the snow clears and the buses can run reliably, they replace the trains. The right hand side of one page of this timetable is devoted to an advertisement for overnight service and a summary of Maine fishing laws. 'In the Maine Woods' is still available for 15 cents. The Bus Service pages indicate that the service as listed actually went into effect the day before the rest of the timetable and there is a note on the facing page that states that of the four ways people move around the United States, the railroads are the only one of the four which pay their own way without the aid of taxpayer money.
