Railroad Historical Society of Maine
In the Fall of 1981, the Railroad Historical Society of Maine released its first issue of the Pine Tree Flyer - a publication for the membership of the newly formed RRHSoM. The publication was a multi-page with photos publication that covered any and all subjects within the State of Maine.
A grand total of six issues were produced and the content is fairly even. Some new information, some historical, some modelling information and drawings / blueprints. The topics range from Maine Narrow Gauge in the past to current events. Preservation efforts and what was going on with Guilford Rail System. For our purposes there is at least one reference to the Bangor and Aroostook in each issue, sometimes significantly more.
In the last issue there is a note from the editor, Ron Palmquist, noting that the costs of printing the Flyer have increased and the board of directors has asked him, as editor, to find an alternative or renegotiate. It would seem that this effort was unsuccessful as there were only the six issues produced. In addition, the RRHSoM itself has disappeared and many of the people involved have passed on.
Below are links to the Pine Tree Flyer's complete run, located in the Boston and Maine Railroad Historical Society's collection. A huge thank you goes out to the B&MRRHS and their members for their extensive online archive.
With the last issue of the Pine Tree Flyer copyrighted 1984, that is the last trace available of the RRHSoM. If you or someone you know has knowledge of what happened to the RRHSoM, please reach out, it would be greatly appreciated.
